To Upgrade or Downgrade?

Just realised that in the last few months I have been on a downgrade spree....here I am not talking about software downgrade.....but realised that this terminology does seem to apply in various walks of life....

I started with downgrading myself from a manager of 20 people and choose to manage just 1 person - my daughter...This i realised was the toughest job i had....which i continued to do...but as it was too challenging, i  deceided to manage people outside the house also, and now i manage myself and a couple of more people.

Due to a conscious choice 1, I downgraded myself from working a minimum 12 hrs a day previously to the current maximum of  about 7 hrs outside the house....and rest i try and find meaningful activities to do....i think that "meaningful activities" is such a relative term...activites do seem meaningful one day...but not consistently meaningful the next day and of course my meaningful activities do not seem meaningful to others...;-)

I downgraded from travelling 14 Km to office to about 5km.....and choose a green heaven to work at instead of a concrete IT jungle (park)....

Of course with the above downgrades came the financial downgrade...this is of course the sad part ;-( but..let's move on....

Now about my planned meaningful downgrades....i am thinking about downgrading from a Maruthi Zen to a Atlas - cycle.....i have been awestuck by a blue - Flora Atlas ladies cycle seen in a bicycle shop....cycles are so much fun - as they give you gresh air to breathe and space in the road to drive...and how many ppl have the luxury of cycling to office? of course, that would also make me a person with social responsibility....by leaving lesser carbon footprints on this earth.....;-) wow!

so, end of the day....is downgrade really a negative thing as it's perceived? In software....many times the programs and the features you really...really need does seem to work with the previous version better...so guess downgrade is fine, as long as it works with you....in conclusion I think, downgrade is a personal thing.....

will write soon about my upgrades next...;-)

Goals and Ambitions....

My blog has been long time due and it is in my goals for this year....so finally here it is! Feels good that i can today tick off one item in my wish list.;-) wow! feels good to have accomplished a goal.

Guess from the time, I had been a kid a question that I have been asked was -"what's your ambition?".Guess it was never asked in seriousness and to me it loosely traslated to "what do you want to become when you were big?". My answers ranged from pilot to doctor to engineer, those were the most acceptable ones to say! Now when people ask my daughter who is a smart 4 year old the same question and I hear the same answers...inspite of a generation difference...I reflect back....what really are these goals and ambitions?

My current goals are quite simple - it is a "To Do" list for the day . Or by saying this am i taking away the charm and mystical quality associated with goals and ambitions ?! Well, I am redefining goals as anything which is accomplished on my wish list amidst the chaos and drudgery of routine is still an achievement. isn't it? would that not be extendable for any time frame....week or month or year....guess it could....so i have my goals for week, month and year defined! ;-)

Abt ambition- well, this is tough. Is it uncompetitive, un-lady like to be ambitionless?? Should we all have ambitions? Ambitions are said to be dreams that...you thrive for....blah! blah!. Well, on top of my head I do seem to not have dreams....or well In that case, i think my biggest ambition is to find the purpose of my existence. That sounds a lot...and i bet that would keep me busy for the rest of my lifetime..

So...i think i like goals - they are simple and neat....and i don't think I am the ambitious type....well, this may change.....
